FENTY SKIN REVIEW: FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Disclaimer this is my FIRST impression of the FENTYSKIN line. I only used the products for a week so I am unable to say whether or not my skin was brightened, even looking, or if my dark spots faded. After using the FENTYSKIN line for a month or two I would be able to give a full review with updated scores.

When Rihanna announced her skincare line I was delighted because I knew that her products wouldn’t disappoint me. Fenty Beauty is the only brand that has a foundation that matches my skin tone exactly and her products are geared to my skin type. With all of the hype surrounding Rihanna’s skincare line I wondered if they would actually work, work, work, work, work. For the past week I've only used FENTYSKIN on my face as a day/night routine. The reviews below are my honest first impressions of all three products.

Fat Water Pore-Refining Toner Serum $28

9/10

The Fat water toner claims to reduce oil on skin, improves the look of pores and reduce the look of dark spots. Like I stated previously I can’t say if the toner reduces the look of my dark spots because I’ve only used it for one week.

Cons: This toner is THICCC. It was so thick that I found it hard to get the product out of the container. I want to say that I managed to get a few droplets out when I first used the toner-serum duo. After a few days getting the product out of the container was easier.

Pros: My skin did feel fresh after using the toner and I honestly didn’t want to apply a moisturizer because my skin felt soft and was hydrated enough for me to do my day to day activities. After working all day my face still looked and felt smooth like it was when I finished using the products in the morning. I noticed that this toner-serum duo had witch hazel in it and some people felt like that was a downfall for the product. For me, I felt like the astringent didn’t irritate my skin. It was very gentle to the point that I wonder if the toner is actually going to help reduce the look of my dark spots over time.

Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen $35

8.5/10

Cons: This was my least favorite product of the FENTYSKIN line but it is not because of the fragrance. To be honest this was the only product that I could notice that had a scent. Fragrance doesn’t bother my skin so I actually liked the cherry-floral smell. The thing that I didn't like about the product was how sticky and greasy it was on my face. After a few hours of wearing the sunscreen it is still sticky to the point that I can slightly feel that I have a product on my face. I don't wear makeup often so when I go out barefaced (ESP. In the summer) I don't like the feel of a product on my face because my skin is so oily it makes anything feel heavy.  I would probably only use this product as a moisturizer base before applying foundation because of the stickiness. I feel like my foundation wouldn’t slide in the summer heat with this moisturizer as a base, but I wouldn't ever wear it on a bare face again. I would also apply the moisturizer as a sunscreen on other areas such as my arms, back and chest. When I did that the product worked wonderfully.

Pros: Overall I actually liked the product. I hope that in the future Rihanna adds a body lotion or sunscreen for the body because the moisturizer worked amazing on other areas. On the FENTYSKIN website they claim that the product is invisible to the skin; on my arms and neck it really did look and feel invisible. When applying the moisturizer-sunscreen duo it had a very slight white cast that then turned clear and I found that amazing for a sunscreen. All other sunscreens that I have seem to make me look like a ghost after using it because the white cast would be so heavy. I also loved the packaging of this product. I can write a whole post on how her packaging was A1.

Total Cleans’r Remove-It-All Cleanser $25

9/10

Con: It feels like I'm applying a lotion rather than a cleanser on my face.

Pros: This product ROCKS! The texture on my skin was a little off for me because it did feel like a lotion but for a lightweight cleanser it really does get deep into your pores and cleans them gently. Another thing that I loved about this product was the packaging. The cleanser has a mess-free twist top that gives you an even amount of product with each squeeze. The packaging of this product prevented me for using too much when it came to washing my face. The lather of the cleanser was gentle and I was able to lather up my entire face with just one pea sized amount of product. So far after using the cleanser I haven't had any breakouts on my face nor did my face feel like it was stripped.

In my opinion FENTYSKIN isn’t some gimmicky celebrity skincare line that's out for kicks and giggles. After using FENTYSKIN for a little over a week I can honestly say that Rihanna actually did release a skincare line that is aimed at improving skin. I’ve always struggled at trying to find the right products for my skin type and also sticking to a routine that works with my lifestyle. With just three products I can target my skin concerns in about 5 minutes every morning and night. I am super excited to see if her products do reduce my dark spots overtime. If so then Rihanna would have a faithful customer.
